In a world where creativity drives industries, design colleges have become crucial in shaping professionals who can merge imagination with technology. ICAT College of Design and Media, established in 2004 by  K. Kumar, Founder and Chairman of the IMAGE Group. His journey in creative education began much earlier, with the launch of IMAGE Creative Education in 1996, India’s first professionally managed multimedia training institute. K. Kumar foresaw the rise of creative technologies and the need for structured, career-focused design programs.

ICAT College became India’s first exclusive design college dedicated to digital media education. In its very first year, the institution introduced PG diploma programs in Animation, VFX, Game Design, and Game Programming. By 2006, it had broken new ground again by pioneering undergraduate degree programs in Animation, VFX, and Gaming, long before such courses were recognized by Indian universities. This positioned ICAT College as the only educational institution in India at that time to offer such design and media courses after 12th. To ensure academic credibility, ICAT College partnered with Wales University, UK, enabling students to pursue internationally validated degree programs, a milestone that positioned the college at the forefront of design education in India. In addition to offering Bachelor’s Degree and Postgraduate programs in Design and Media streams, ICAT College also offers Master’s degree programs in Game Technology and Multimedia.

Now, more than two decades later, ICAT College continues to be a trailblazer. Its alumni are leaders across animation, gaming, fashion design, interior design, and VFX, contributing to industries that thrive on creativity. Through its vision and innovation, the institute has firmly established design education as a vital and respected discipline in India.

Education Designed for Real-World Success

Guided by the vision of Founder and Chairman K. Kumar, the institution emphasizes that higher education must translate into meaningful employment. It equips students for the creative industry through industry-style projects, internships, and portfolio building. Regular workshops, masterclasses, and guest lectures ensure learning stays relevant, while training in communication, teamwork, and professionalism fosters holistic growth, preparing graduates to thrive and succeed in the fast-evolving design and media sector.

Its curriculum blends creativity, technology, and practical application, offering students multi-disciplinary exposure. Learning is project-based, mirroring real industry scenarios, and every program is anchored in portfolio development. Students graduate with a professional body of work and Reflective Visual Journals that track creative growth, sharpen processes, and reinforce individual style.

The Global Impact of ICAT College Alumni

Today, ICAT College of Design & Media has built a global alumni network of more than 9,000 graduates, working across leading creative industries around the world. This growing alumni community also serves as a valuable network for current students, offering mentorship, industry insights, and career opportunities.

ICAT’s Experiential Learning Across Cities

ICAT College of Design & Media creates an environment that mirrors professional studios, ensuring students train on the same tools used by global industries. With campuses in Chennai, Bangalore, and Hyderabad, the institution provides a vibrant creative ecosystem across major design and technology hubs in India. Dedicated labs and studios for Animation, VFX, Game Design, Fashion Design, and Interior Design are equipped with high-end workstations, industry-standard software, and the latest hardware. Facilities such as green matte setups, sound recording studios, gaming zones, and miniature labs allow students to experiment with emerging technologies, while libraries and collaborative spaces support research, brainstorming, and knowledge sharing.

Workshops, masterclasses, and seminars form a core part of ICAT College’s pedagogy. Students engage with leading animators, designers, and VFX supervisors, gaining first-hand insights into global projects. Regular industry visits, panel discussions on emerging trends like AI in design, and structured placement training further strengthen career readiness. Staying true to Founder  K. Kumar’s vision, ICAT College ensures students remain closely connected to industry practices throughout their learning journey.

In addition, ICAT College collaborates with recognized universities such as Alagappa University, Bangalore University, and Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University (JNAFAU) to provide accredited degree programs that complement its industry-focused training.

Industry-Oriented Programs That Shape Creative Careers

One of the defining characteristics of ICAT College of Design & Media is its strong emphasis on industry-oriented academic programs. The curriculum is carefully developed in collaboration with professionals from the animation, gaming, and design industries, ensuring students gain skills that align with current industry practices. ICAT College offers Bachelor’s, Postgraduate, and Master’s degree programs in

  • Animation
  • Visual Effects (VFX)
  • Game Design and Game Programming
  • Graphic Design
  • UI/UX Design
  • Multimedia and Digital Media
  • Fashion Design
  • Interior Design
  • Photography

These programs are structured to combine theoretical knowledge with practical application, enabling students to develop a comprehensive understanding of both the creative and technical dimensions of their chosen fields.

Strong Industry Connections and Career Opportunities

ICAT College also nurtures strong industry connections, with a placement network of over 1,500 recruiters, including global names such as Amazon, Zoho, Zynga, and EA Sports. The Annual Graduate Showcase further enhances career readiness, giving the final-year students of Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree and PG Programs, a platform to present their best work before industry leaders, dignitaries, and recruiters, often leading to direct placements and recognition.

The college’s faculties are another cornerstone of its uniqueness. From inception, Kumar insisted that practitioners should lead teaching, ensuring students learn from professionals actively shaping creative industries. Supported by workshops, training, and international guest experts, the faculty function not only as educators but also as mentors, preparing students for placements, entrepreneurship, and global careers in the creative sector.

Shaping the Future of Global Design Education

ICAT College of Design & Media envisions a future defined by innovation, global collaboration, and curriculum evolution. Building on its legacy of pioneering design education in India, the college now plans to expand its international partnerships, introduce student exchange programs, and strengthen entrepreneurship and start-up support for its graduates. These initiatives aim to give students exposure beyond borders while fostering a culture of creativity and enterprise.

Technology-driven learning forms another pillar of ICAT College’s future plans. Investments are being made in advanced research facilities and innovation-focused areas such as AI-driven design, immersive media, and game technology. This commitment ensures that ICAT College graduates remain prepared for the next frontier of global creative industries.

A Vision That Continues to Lead

Just as Founder and Chairman  K. Kumar anticipated the need for structured design education two decades ago, his current vision is to keep the institute positioned as India’s most trusted design institution while aligning it with global standards. More than a design school, ICAT College functions as a holistic ecosystem where learning by doing prepares students not just to secure an employment but also to lead in a rapidly evolving creative economy.
